Loddon Mallee Renewable Energy Art Award
GUIDELINES
The Loddon Mallee Renewable Energy Art Award will support ten artists from across the region to produce an artwork inspired by their vision of “our renewable energy future”. Each artist will receive $1000 to produce their work.
The aim of the award is to generate community awareness about the current and future transition from fossil fuels, to carbon neutral renewable energy. This is an exciting opportunity for artists to support their local communities to explore possible renewable energy futures through creative expression.
Upon completion the ten works will tour the region and be displayed in local libraries. The exhibition will showcase a collective vision of a more sustainable future for Loddon Mallee communities.
Theme
Art pieces need response to the theme statement: “Our renewable energy future”
As the Loddon Mallee region covers an area of nearly 59,000 square kilometres in the North West of Victoria, following the Murray River from Mildura to Echuca through the Goldfields to the Macedon Ranges, you can imagine the wealth of opportunities for communities to embrace current and future renewable energy projects in their area.
There are several large-scale renewable energy projects already in operation across the region such as the Gannawarra Solar Farm, currently the largest combined battery and solar power plant in Australia. There are also many community energy projects underway in the Loddon Mallee (see “Further Information” for more details).
Artists are encouraged to create artwork that represents their vision of renewable energy in the region and/or their local community in a positive way.

3. What is renewable energy?
When we think of renewable energy, solar panels or wind farms are often first to mind, but there are many other ways communities are transitioning to a renewable energy future. Renewable energy includes a broad range of new practices and technologies including but not limited to:
4. What are the conditions of the award?
Successful applicants must sign a funding agreement with the Victorian Government. An award of $1000 total will be granted, inclusive of materials and other costs. The artwork will remain the property of artist however, as part of the conditions of the award, the artist agrees to loan his/her artwork to DELWP from the completion date until the end of the exhibition period. The artist will also grant the Department and associated entities the right to use images of the artwork.
Additional information
Renewable energy is rapidly growing across Victoria. Responses to climate change and advancement in new technologies are driving changes to the way energy is produced and consumed. The Victorian government is supporting these changes on order to meet its targets of 50% renewable energy for Victoria by 2030.
To ensure the community is represented in the energy transition, DELWP Loddon Mallee has partnered with Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance (CVGA) to produce the Loddon Mallee Renewable Energy Roadmap.
The aim of the Roadmap is to create a vision of a new energy future in the Loddon Mallee region by capturing community members’ thoughts, ideas and opinions. Councils, DELWP and CVGA are working with individuals, businesses, communities and government to create this vision and maximise the benefits of the electricity system transformation.
