Lighting the Region Major Roads
The Central Victorian Greenhouse Alliance (CVGA) worked with its member councils and Ironbark Sustainability to replace major road streetlights to energy efficient LED technology across the CVGA region.
In total, 10,900 streetlights were replaced saving:-
- Approximately 43,521 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions during the life of the new assets (over 20 years) – equivalent to taking 10,121 cars off the road for one-year!
The project will enable Councils to innovatively reduce operating costs and greenhouse gas emissions associated with major road lighting assets, as well as climate change impacts in their respective municipalities. It will also assist the Victorian Government in meeting its emissions reduction targets of 15-20 percent below 2005 levels by 2020 and net zero emissions by 2050 (as per Climate Change Act 2017).
The CVGA appointed Ironbark Sustainability to undertake the work.
This project was completed in 2023.
